Pattern, Form, and Collage
I created this collage in class to experiment with different media than pigment liners and charcoal. I ripped and cut out paper from magazines to create this collage. I tried to portray the intangible emotion of anger throughout the collage by using bold colours such as red and black to get a sense of the emotion. The collage is supposed to explain a girl who is hurt and is going through the anger stage of a breakup, however, I believe I haven’t shown the ‘breakup’ side of it, so I will need to work on this. The texture of the red paper and the black paper over the mouth I made sure to rip and scrunch to add some natural patterns through the paper. To me, this provided a ‘dangerous’ feeling due to the scratchy look of the paper. The tangible object in the collage is the face of the girl which I have cut up to try add a distorted look, I made sure to keep the side of the face that had tears slowly streaming down to add further emotion to the piece of work.
I then explored the effect the background colour has on making the collage stand out. I do like the look of having the grey as it adds contrast between the bright colours and the dull background. However, I don’t think I will be using this collage to develop but it was fun to explore and great for inspiration.
Reflection
I believe this was a good starting point to allow me to create a hand-made collage, however, I would like to explore this more but try to use a more simplistic and minimalistic approach.
