Category Spread

For this spread specifically, I need to work on it a bit more. It is ‘screaming’ out too loud so I will explore different sized fonts, especially for the main heading. I will try it as the same size as the destination spread headings or perhaps it could be smaller because the page isn’t as important as the destination spreads.

Destination Spread

The feedback I received for this spread was that I need to show more emotion because it can’t be shown only through the colour. A suggestion was that I make the crying eye more dominant at the top of the page so that it is the first thing you see and then the tears fall down leading into the food, which I will change from ice cream to chocolate brownie. The line I will make longer so that it goes across 2 of the columns, I will also try the line going across 3 columns. Another suggestion was that I could explore the location of the pull-out quote and perhaps put it at the top of the page in line with the body text. I will also need to think about what to write in the pull-out quote and how to make it sound quirky. For instance, talk about mascara running down the face. It was decided that this was my better typography layout in comparison to the other destination spread, which I completely agree on.

Destination Spread

For this destination spread, I got a note that said that the imagery doesn’t relate, which I can completely understand. I need to make the three aspects more obvious, but not too obvious. A suggestion was that I use an illustration of a hand in a fist to show the anger and perhaps change the ‘bean’ shape to something that relates to the emotion because I drew the shape because I liked the look of it, but it has no relevance. I will need to do this on each of the spreads. Another suggestion was that I could add the mural of Midnight Espresso to help show the destination, which I will explore.

Reflection

From this feedback, I am excited to start exploring my concepts further and I will see how I can make every aspect in the collage relate more to the emotion, place, and food or drink. The general feedback was that it looked great but there was a lot going on and a lot of what was happening didn’t have much relevance, which I completely agree on. So my next step is to use the feedback I received to explore more variations of design and develop these concepts further.
